Jakubov spreads along both banks of the Jakubovka brook. The parish church of St. James the Greater, forms the dominant point of the village. The village was first mentioned in the middle of the 13th century, when the village belonged to the Austrian noble Wolfram Schenk of Schenkenberg. The local castle was owned by the Jakubov branch of the Pernstein family during the 14th century. Jakubov was granted the status of a market-town most probably towards the end of the 16th century, during the ownership of the family Krajíř z Krajku. The independent parish ceased to exist during the Thirty Years‘ War, following which Jakubov lost the market-town status. Iron ore was mined at the north border of the village. Rich culture and sport activities helped Jakubov in winning the county competition of "Village of the Year" in 2005 and the title "Vysočina Village" of 2005.
